Are Online Divorce Papers really Legal?

If you and your spouse are willing to work together towards an amicable divorce, you may be able to print divorce papers online to use for your agreement.  These papers can give you a great idea about what information you need to have and what decisions you will need to make before you proceed with your divorce.

When you begin your search for online divorce papers, make sure you choose the papers for your state as every state has its own rules for divorce.  Some sites will allow you to fill in the information and then print the forms, while others only offer the forms you need.

It doesn’t matter which way you choose to use the forms.  The online divorce forms are legal, but you cannot file online.  You must print the forms and file them locally in your county clerk of court office.  There will also be fees that need to be paid at that time.  If the fees are not paid, your papers will not be filed with the court.

Amicable divorces are definitely the best way to go for your divorce.  The reasons many divorces take so long is because the couple is fighting over every detail.  If you take away the fighting, you take away the months of lawyer appointments and court hearings.  This also saves you money – and who doesn’t need more of that?

Even if you are filing an amicable divorce with your spouse, it is still a good idea for an attorney to look at your agreement.  While you may agree with it, there are so many details that need to be addressed it is easy to forget something.  Your lawyer can check all of the details for you and advise you about anything that needs to be changed.

The internet can be a valuable tool to find information, but remember that not everything you read may be completely correct.  Online divorce papers can be the same way so be very careful when you choose to use those papers.  As a guideline, the papers may be a good source to help you begin making decisions, but don’t rely too much on them.  Always contact an attorney for the best information for your area.
