How will I know When to Get a Divorce?

In all reality, no one but you can know when to get a divorce. The reason one person may leave a marriage may seem trivial to you and vice versa. When to get a divorce is a very personal decision and not one to be taken lightly. There are some signs that may tell you your marriage is in trouble, but again, this a highly personal decision.

 If you are only staying with your spouse because of your children, it may be time to get a divorce. Every parent wants to protect their children, but children are aware of what is going on around them and they need to understand that mom and dad being happy is very important.  If being alone is not a scary thought, but instead one you welcome, it may be a sign it is time to get a divorce. For many people, realizing that being alone is not as scary as staying married is the point they know they need to pursue a divorce.

 Every couple goes through times when they seem disconnected. Often, this is just a spell and nothing that you need to worry about. If you feel disconnected more than you feel a connection with your spouse, it may be time to consider a divorce.

 You will know when to get a divorce if you have lost complete respect for your spouse. Respect is a necessity in every relationship and once it is gone, it is very hard to regain.

 If you have tried marriage counseling and you still have the same issues, you may know when to get a divorce. Counseling is a great idea to try and work out your problems before deciding to divorce, but if you do not feel you have made any progress in resolving your problems, it is probably time to part ways.

 If you realize that your spouse no longer fulfills any of your needs, you will know when to get a divorce. These needs include physical, emotional, sexual or spiritual needs. If you are constantly feeling unloved or unneeded, it may be time to consider filing for divorce.

 If you discover you are being treated in a way that you do not like or deserve, it could tell you when to get a divorce. You deserve love and respect and if your partner can no longer give those to you, it could be time for a divorce.

Whether any of these situations apply to you or not, you will be the only one who knows when to get a divorce. Your reasons could be similar or completely different, but this is a personal decision that only you can make.
