How to Get Divorced for the Least Amount of Money

Getting a divorce is never easy and the financial cost can be even more draining. There are ways to get divorced for a lower cost, but you need to be willing to work with your spouse and this can be very difficult for you. If you truly want to save money with your divorce, here are some suggestions.

If you are thinking about how you will get divorced, consider working with your spouse on an uncontested divorce. Basically, this means that you sit down together and make all of the decisions about how to divide your assets and liabilities, child support and visitation, and other financial issues. Doing this may not be easy, but an uncontested divorce is one way to get divorced for a lower price.

If you are wondering how to get divorced without being able to discuss anything with your spouse, there are still ways you can do it for less money than both of you hiring lawyers and fighting in court. Many states have mediators you can hire who will look over your situation and offer suggestions to you both. You do not have to use their suggestions, but if you and your spouse are fighting constantly, just the fact that the ideas came from a neutral party may be enough that you can both let go of the anger and agree.

Once you have both agreed to terms, the next step in how to get divorced is to file a petition for divorce in your county clerk’s office. This can be done on your own to save money or you can hire an attorney to file the necessary paperwork for you. After the petition is filed, the other spouse will have a certain amount of time to respond to it. Your petition will be given a case number and a date will be set for a hearing on your divorce.

Many people believe that how to get divorced is a long, hard process and in some cases, it is. For couples who cannot work together to make decisions on anything, thousands of dollars and years can be spent on trying to work out agreements. This is a good time to remember that fighting over a silly object neither of you wants only because you do not want the other person to have is going to get expensive. Try to think about the future and how soon you will be free of this person when choosing to argue over the little things.

Save your children a lot of heartache and yourself a lot of money by agreeing to work out details between you and your spouse. It may be the hardest thing you ever do, but in the end, everyone will be better off from it.
